After an entire semester of slaving away to make sure you get good grades, you certainly deserve a break. And now that the semester break is finally here, you probably want to shake off the stress of finals and just have fun for the next few days, before you have to go through the process of enrollment yet again.

Since the break between semesters lasts for just a couple of weeks, you probably wouldn’t have time for a lengthy vacation. And since your aim is to de-stress, it certainly isn’t advisable to go somewhere that requires a lengthy travel.

The best thing for you to do, then, is look for an excellent getaway destination just a few hours away from Cagayan de Oro. Here are our suggestions . . .

Balingoan, Misamis Oriental

This town may not be as well-known as other vacation destinations in the area, but you’ll be pleasantly surprised at the wonders it has to offer, particularly underwater. Here are two underwater scenes in Balingoan you may want to visit this semester break:

Banaug Shoal

The house reef of the Mantangale Alibuag Dive Resort is undoubtedly among the best house reefs you’ll ever see. You won’t believe how much diversity could be found in such a dense area, and the colors you’ll get to witness will be sure to leave you breathless with wonder and amazement.

Lapinig Island

Have you noticed that small island that can be seen when you’re on a ferry from Balingoan to Camiguin? That’s Lapinig Island, and it offers an action-packed underwater adventure! On ordinary days, you can marvel at soft and hard corals, feather stars, sea fans, sponges, angelfish, butterflyfish, groupers, striped fish, and bristle worms, among others. But if you’re lucky, you just might get to see a manta ray up close!

Camiguin

The Island Born of Fire can be the perfect place to unwind and de-stress for a few days, as it has just about everything you could ask for—white-sand beaches, cold springs, hot springs, majestic waterfalls, magnificent ruins, and even a sunken cemetery! Add to that some really good food and friendly locals, and you really can’t think of any reason not to visit this island, which is just a little over two hours away from CDO.

Dahilayan Forest Park

Located in Dahilayan, Bukidnon, this adventure park is just a little over an hour away from CDO. Unwind in surreal surroundings, at a place with a sprawling mountaintop playground, animal sculptures, and picnic grounds awash in fog . . .

. . . and then shrug off the mysterious aura and go for an all-out adventure on the ATV and Buggy trail, the Barrel Train, the Bumper Boats, the Bungee Bounce and Net Trampoline, the Forest Putt Mini Golf, the Hanging Bridge, Horseback Riding, the Luge Sled Downhill Ride that came all the way from New Zealand, the Treetop Adventure, and the Zorbit Ball.

Sagpulon Falls

Less than an hour away from CDO, in the quiet town of Jasaan, Misamis Oriental, lies a tourist spot like no other . . .

Sagpulon may not have falls as strong and magnificent as those of place like Camiguin and Iligan, but the unique view of a waterfall spreading out against a wide, moss-covered mountain wall and the mini caves along the wall will be sure to amaze you.

Whether you’re on your own or with family and friends, this could very well be the perfect place for you to de-stress from the first semester and recharge so you’re prepared for the next.

Ultra Winds Mountain Resort

You want to relax, right? Well, what can be more relaxing than an infinity pool atop a mountain, with a breathtaking view at dawn and dusk?

That’s what you get when you go for a staycation in this resort located in Baungon, Bukidnon. The resort is at the boundary of CDO and Bukidnon, so it’s only a 30-minute ride away! Other than the pool, the resort has comfortable rooms, a restaurant that offers excellent food, and other amenities.

Oh, and how fun would it be to go on a downhill zipline? Yes, they have that, too!

These are just five of the places near Cagayan de Oro where you can spend your semester break and give yourself a chance to recharge for the next semester.

There are a lot more you can choose to explore. It isn’t always easy being a student; there will indeed be times when you’ll need to get away from it all and just relax. And this short break between semesters is the perfect time to do so. Enjoy!
