Event Description

The biggest Brazilian flip-flops customization event in the Philippines is coming to Cagayan de Oro!

On April 22, 23, and 24, flip-flops lovers are expected to troop to SM City Cagayan de Oro for this year’s Make Your Own Havaianas. This year, the fun and colorful customization event will be held at the SM City CDO Event Center. The theme for MYOH 2016 is based on “Shibori”, which is considered as the oldest indigo dyeing technique in Japan.

Indigo, a concept popular in trade and textile shows, is the perfect theme for this year’s MYOH, since it represents something that Filipinos can easily adapt to. Japanese influences in our food, fashion, travel, and lifestyle are evident, and indigo is a symbol for all these. Additionally, the MYOH colors this year are tonal and subdued. This may be a different concept for the event, but then again, Havaianas were actually inspired by Japanese sandals called Zori, which had rice straw soles and fabric straps. So, the concept is not really that far off. Besides, it’s always exciting to try out something new!

How to Make Your Own Havaianas

For those who have not yet gone to any MYOH event, here’s what usually happens.

You are given the freedom to choose the soles, straps, and pins that you want for your flip-flops. There’s a wheel that you get to use for pairing these, so you’ll see how they are when combined. If you want a special pair of Havaianas, you can go for the commemorative pair (which changes every year according to theme).

Some of the featured pins for this year include The Sakura (Cherry Blossoms, Japan’s national flower),  The Japanese Fan, The Robot, The Empress, The Zori, and the Japan pin.

Once you’ve decided which soles, straps, and pins you really want to use, you are to move forward to the assembly section where friendly MYOH volunteers will help you assemble your flip-flops.

An MYOH pair can cost you anywhere between Php895 and Php1045, depending on the design, straps, and pin/s that you choose.

So, if you’re ready to make your own Havaianas, get ready to assemble your flip-flops at the SM Event Center. The 2016 MYOH will run from April 22 to 24, 9am to 9pm.

See you at SM!
