ROTA (Reaching Out Through Altruism) Philippines, an organization composed of people with interest in nurture-nature-related outdoor activities and community service, has partnered with ATTACK CDO (All Terrain Trekkers and Cross-Country Klub) to organize the 7th Trek and Treat on Saturday, April 02, 2016. The event aims to raise funds for the surgical and financial needs of children in need of treatment. This year’s trekking activity will be at Mintugsok Waterfalls in Indahag.
The 7th Trek and Treat will be for the medical expenses of Baby Gio Paolo, who is suffering from Biliary Atresia and needs to undergo a liver transplant at the Chang Gung Memorial Hospital in Kaoshung, Taiwan. Expenses for the procedure is expected to total to Php4 million.
Biliary Atresia is a liver disease affecting infants or children where the bile ducts are either abnormal in growth, narrow, or absent. Baby Gio’s case is a rare one and Philippine doctors cannot do the procedure because the country has yet to establish a liver transplant program for kids.
